I’m Helena, and the GrayAllDay blog is a piece of my obsession with sewing, clothes, and fashion. I sew for my 2 daughters, ages 5 and 10, and me (age undisclosed)!
I have always loved fashion and was intrigued by the idea of taking control of what I wear by sewing it. My mother has been a seamstress for longer than I’ve been alive, so I started sewing as soon as I could get up on the chair. But the truth is, it took me a long time to develop the patience to learn and love the process of sewing.
I recently took over the unused formal living room for my sewing room. It was a great move! It keeps me in the center of the family action even while I’m working on a project (or 2, or 3…) and my daughters hang out with me. I can work on things for just a few minutes, or keep sewing for hours and still know what it going on (and fetch snacks upon request).
Starting this blog has been fun and enlightening. I work in content management, so the technical aspects of posting and organizing content is fun to do my own way (not subject to the client’s objectives). But the question remains, why start a blog when I could just keep my head down and sew?
Here are my Top 3 reasons I love blogging:
- Sewists and the sewing community are the nicest and most supportive people, and their creativity is so inspiring! I love contributing in my little way to the collective.
- The blog pushes me to complete projects (I’m more of a starter than a finisher), document them, and keep upgrading my skills. I want my blog to be interesting and vibrant, so that pushes me to get it done and get creative!
- It has helped me pinpoint my passions and organize my goals. I realize that I dislike making the same thing over and over, while not tapping into my creativity. I love to figure new things out, solve a puzzle, and put my personal stamp on things by mixing fabrics.
